

Overview
This study aims to examine geriatricians and general practitioners’ experiences and views regarding capacity assessment for people with dementia, including the circumstances under which capacity assessments are requested; the groups most likely to request an assessment; approaches or screening tools used to guide assessments; and perceived barriers and enablers to assessing capacity of people with dementia. We will also explore practitioners’ views regarding substitute and supported decision making for people with dementia, including the problems which they most frequently observe in this area, and perceived barriers and enablers to substitute and supported decision making.

Survey is in development. Ethics application to be submitted once face-to-face data collection is deemed appropriate by the relevant ethics committee.
