Research team: Dr Adnan Alam, Prof Danielle Mazza, Dr Christopher Barton
Overview: This research project is supported by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners with funding from the Australian Government under the Australian General Practice Training program. Our objective is to gain a deeper understanding of the barriers and enablers of advance care planning for people with dementia among Australian GPs. Data will be collected using in-depth semi-structured telephone interviews of GPs recruited from practices across the south east region of metropolitan Melbourne. Audio recordings will be transcribed verbatim for thematic analysis. Insights from this study will help inform strategies GPs may employ to initiate advance care planning early among patients with dementia leading to better outcomes for all involved.
