Overview: Some diseases are associated with a shortened life expectancy. In these circumstances, while treatments may be able to assist with controlling symptoms or slowing progression, it is not possible to cure the disease. There is little evidence and a degree of uncertainty about the essential components and processes of optimal care for people with a shortened life expectancy. This study will explore the views of patient care experts and consumers regarding the essential components of care for patients with a life expectancy of 12 months or less.
